The beach holiday destination where trips cost 319% less than they did five years ago – and it's only 4 hours by plane | The Sun

A BEACH holiday destination now costs 319 per cent less than it did five years ago and has been crowned the "cheapest holiday destination" of 2023.

New data has revealed Turkey is the most affordable destination for Brits looking to get the best value for money on both food and attractions.

With the cost of living crisis, people are having to consider their budget more carefully than ever before.

As such, it has become increasingly important that people feel they are getting the best value for their money.

Personal finance experts at Cash Lady conducted research to find the cheapest holiday destinations this summer, based on exchange rate fluctuation.

Taking the top spot was Turkey, with the Turkish Lira (TL) increasing from 5.85 TL per £1 in 2018 to a staggering 24.52 TL per £1 in 2023.

They include seven nights all-inclusive at Grand Pasa Hotel in Marmaris from £471pp and seven nights all-inclusive at Wyndham Residences Kusadasi Golf & Spa in Kusadasi from £541pp.

Personal finance expert at Cash Lady, Dan Whittaker, said: “For Brits looking for a budget holiday abroad, Turkey has been crowned as the destination which provides the best value for money this year, when comparing exchange rates between now and five years ago.

"Port city Marmaris continues to be a popular choice as it is home to beautiful beaches and lively nightlife."

Flights to Turkey take around four hours from the UK.

There are other destinations that offer Brits more value for their money this year, including Egypt.

Brits will get almost 73 per cent more than a year ago for their pound – which is equivalent to more than £210 extra when exchanging £500.

Research published by the Post Office showed that a meal for two with a bottle of wine will cost around £48 in Sharm el Sheikh this year.

This is because the Egyptian Pound continued to fall against sterling last year and is now more than 180 per cent weaker than in 2020 during the pandemic.

Many locations within Egypt are worth seeing, but the biggest bargains will be in Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh, if you're keen on a beach break.

All-inclusive stays are the biggest value for money at the moment, with plenty of deals under £500pp.
