Norwegian Air has announced that it will be launching a brand new direct route to Rio de Janeiro, departing from London Gatwick.
It comes as good news for budget-savvy travellers, as fares will be starting from £239.90 each way, making for one of the cheapest direct UK routes to Brazil.
The new service will take off on the 31st March 2019, but you can already book your seats on the Norwegian website.
The £239.90 fares are based on an Economy ticket, but if you want to travel in the airline’s Premium cabin then you’re looking at starting prices from £549.90 each way. Premium does come with perks though, including larger seats, more legroom, priority boarding and a complimentary three-course meal.
There will be four weekly flights (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday), all of which will be served by the airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
It marks another step in Norwegian’s ever-expanding network, which already spans long-haul destinations including Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In fact, it’s set to increase the service on the 3rd December where it will go from four weekly flights to a daily service – not to mention Norwegian has also launched domestic flights in Argentina.
The airline has also firmly established itself as a force to be reckoned with for cheap flights to the USA, counting routes to the likes of Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Orlando, with fares available for less than £200 each way.
Bjorn Kjos, Chief Executive Officer at Norwegian said: "We’re building on our expansive global network by launching the UK’s most affordable flights to Brazil and making South America available to even more consumers.
"Our new Rio de Janeiro route breaks the monopoly on direct flights between the UK and Brazil as we’re committed to lowering fares and making travel more affordable for all holidaymakers and business travellers.
"Brazil is a fantastic addition to our global network and we look forward to welcoming customers on board."
