Woman makes ice spheres for gin using tennis balls and balloons

With bars closed, it’s up to people to make their own Insta-worthy drinks at home.

But one woman who wanted to create an ice sphere for her gin struggled to find a mold that would work.

Each one was for 4-6 spheres and she wanted to make just one at a time.

So she get inventive and created her own.

Posting in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, she showed how she cut some tennis balls around the middle, leaving them still attached on one side.

She then filled some water balloons, put the water balloons inside the tennis ball and popped them in the freezer.

Once it was frozen, she was able to lift the frozen balloon out of the ball and peel the balloon off.

She then added it to her favourite gin to keep it cool for her to enjoy.

Her post said: ‘DIY Ice Sphere. Could only find 4/6 mould trays so decided to make my own!

‘Water bombs 50 – £1 Tesco

‘Tennis Balls – 89/99p Home Bargains.’

Others in the group loved the idea and tagged their friends to tell them to give it a go.

Some gave some tips to make the sphere look even more professional.

One person recommended distilled water or boiled water for clear balls.

Tap water tends to go cloudy when frozen but boiling it and then cooling it helps it stay clear.

Some people weren’t so impressed with the idea and advised that molds are cheaper so there’s no need to DIY, but if you have the items already, it might be a good idea for you.
