Since Tatcha debuted its famous Water Cream moisturizer in 2017, the product has become a cult favorite. Given the not-so-cheap price point of $68 — it must be pretty good. And with more than 2,200 reviews on the Tatcha website, 1,500 on Amazon and over 3,600 on Sephora’s website, The Post decided to sift through the thousands of reviews to figure out what exactly all the hype is about.
But first, let’s get all the details about this coveted product.
What is the Tatcha Water Cream?
The Tatcha Water Cream is an oil-free, anti-aging moisturizer that features a formula full of skin-improving Japanese nutrients, powerful botanicals and maximum hydration for poreless-looking skin.
The Water Cream is also considered fairly clean, since it’s non-comedogenic, cruelty-free, non-irritating, non-sensitizing, dermatologist-tested and made without mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, urea, DEA, TEA and phthalates.

It comes with a fancy golden spoon that’s meant to be used to scoop a pearl-sized amount of cream onto your face and then massaged onto your face, neck and décolletage in upward strokes. You can use it daily, in the morning and night. The Water Cream is ideal for all skin types including sensitive skin.
What is in the Tatcha Water Cream?
Key ingredients include Japanese wild rose, Japanese Leopard Lily and Hadasei-3 Complex.
According to the Tatcha website, the wild rose is used in traditional Eastern cultures to bring the body back into balance, improve circulation and even calm the spirit. While creating this product, the brand found that the antioxidant-rich fruits of this fragrant blossom can balance skin and diminish the look of pores.
Leopard lily is a flower found in Japan that has been prized for centuries. It’s used to decorate the streets of Kyoto’s geisha district during the Gion Festival and has earned the name “the flower of Kyoto.” Tatcha harnessed its special powers to help minimize excess oil production, calm problem skin and promote skin turnover.
The Hadasei-3 Complex is a trio of antioxidant-rich Japanese superfoods that reveals soft, healthy-looking skin. The complex features Uji Green Tea (known to detoxify and help prevent signs of premature aging), Okinawa Red Algae (rich in polysaccharides, essential for skin water retention and renewal) and Akita Rice (a nourishing moisturizer, rich in essential proteins).
Results To Expect:
Based on an independent consumer study that Tatcha performed with 20 women who used the Water Cream twice daily for four weeks:
- 85% of the women agreed the clarity of their skin appearance improved and pores looked smaller
- 90% agreed that their skin felt balanced, not oily, had a more youthful glow and looked radiant
- 95% of the women agreed that their skin looked brighter with a healthy-looking bounce and more hydrated
Here’s why people love Tatcha Water Cream:
Here’s what reviewers have to say about it:
“I work out and drink tons of water but I firmly believe I owe my results to Tatcha. Worth the price, your skin is definitely worth the investment!” said one Sephora shopper, nothing they “saw a reduction in smile lines and people never believe my age when I tell them.”
“I love this moisturizer! It doesn’t go on thick or sticky like a lot of other moisturizers do, and doesn’t pill when I layer it over my other serums,” said another Sephora reviewer. “I have super dry skin and it’s enough to keep me from getting dry patches as well.”
“I love this product! It’s great in humidity and is my go-to for summer. It makes my skin look dewy, is so lightweight, but doesn’t create shine,” said another reviewer. “It almost ‘controls’ my oily forehead even while sweating, I think because it actually soaks into the skin to hydrate and doesn’t just sit on the surface.”
One reviewer from the Tatcha website has combination skin and can’t say enough good things about the Water Cream. “I have combination skin with visible pores and some blemishes. If I don’t moisturize my skin [it] appears rough but [if I use another moisturizer meant for oily skin my face] gets oily and [my] pores appear larger,” she explained. “Friends, this is the perfect solution, love love love this cream!!!!”
It’s safe to say, the Tatcha Water Cream just might be worth trying. And if the price tag is holding you back, Tatcha.com offers shoppers four interest-free installments of $17 each with afterpay.
