Thousands of Barclaycard customers unable to make payments due to tech glitch

Barclaycard customers have been hit by a "technical glitch" which is not allowing them to make payments.

Brits who are complaining on social media said they've been unable to make contactless payments for weeks.

One Twitter user, who recently became a customer, said it has never worked for them.

They wrote: "I have been a customer for only a few months – contactless never works.

"Had 2 brand new cards – it works for a few days then stops. Absolute joke. All my other cards are fine and never have an issue!"

Another added: "Contactless has not been functioning on my card for weeks now. Please advise when this will be fixed.

"Can't get through on the contact number again, 30+ minute wait."

Barclaycard responded to users on Twitter to say the bank is aware of the issue and is "urgently investigating".

The bank continued: "There are some issues at the moment using contactless and the team are working on a fix.

"You can receive a message when it's back up and running by visiting the status link."

An updated shared on the firm's service update page said the issue is still ongoing.

Barclaycard advised customers to use their VPN or mobile phone to make payments.

A spokesperson told MoneySavingExpert that it first started seeing the glitch in March.

The website said: "We are experiencing a tech issue impacting the contactless functionality for some Barclaycard cardholders."

It continued: "We are working hard to fix the issue, and a resolution is on track to be implemented in the coming days.

"All impacted customers have been contacted to make them aware, and we will contact them again once the issue is resolved.

"We would like to apologise to all impacted customers for the inconvenience caused."
