Sarah Ferguson, 60, is extremely close to both her daughters Princess Eugenie, 30, and Princess Beatrice, 32, and they have been a regular trio at royal events over the years. Now Princess Eugenie has become a mother herself, she may be relying on support from Fergie more than ever. Body language expert and author Judi James analysed five iconic photos of Eugenie and Fergie for and shared her findings.

Newborn Eugenie – 1990

Sarah Ferguson posed with a newborn baby Eugenie outside London’s Portland Hospital following her birth on March 23, 1990.

In the picture, a beaming Sarah Ferguson waves to fans while cradling a swaddled baby Eugenie in her arms.

Eugenie’s father Prince Andrew appears to be over the moon as he stands beside Fergie grinning.

The Portland Hospital is also where Eugenie chose to have her child.

Proud mum – 2012

In this picture, a proud-looking Sarah Ferguson has her arm around Eugenie after she completed a 64-mile bike ride for charity.

The photo signals Fergie’s lasting support for all her daughters’ charitable endeavours.

Tight trio – 2017

In 2017, Eugenie, Fergie and Beatrice all attended the glamourous launch of The Ned in London together.

Having analysed the powerful picture, Judi told “Sarah and her two daughters appeared virtually inseparable up to the point where Eugenie married Jack and started a family of her own, but the bonds between mother and daughter suggest Sarah will remain a constant presence in Eugenie’s life, especially now Eugenie has become a mother herself for the first time.”

Judi added: “In terms of both looks and body language, older daughter Beatrice is the one that most resembles her mother, while Eugenie seems to have inherited her father’s features.

“Both Beatrice and Sarah have a tendency for excitable and very openly emotional expressions, with wide, rounded eyes and even wider smiles but despite being the younger sister, Eugenie’s body language has always suggested a calmer, more mature and thoughtful personality.

“In many ways, it has historically been Eugenie posing more like the maternal one of the trio and this probably sits well with Fergie’s obvious air of vulnerability since her marriage to Andrew broke down and she was ejected from the Firm.

“This contrast between the two women seems to have forged some powerful bonds, with Fergie looking fiercely proud of her daughter while Eugenie often looks fiercely protective of her mother.”

‘Emotional bonds’ – 2016

Eugenie and Fergie were snapped standing together in the royal box at Ascot racecourse in 2016.

According to Judi, the candid photo shows the mother and daughter’s strong emotional ties.

Judi said: “This pose illustrates the strong and very complimentary emotional bonds between the two women, defining their contrasting personalities that work so well together.

“Fergie’s body language is all about spontaneity and taking risks in terms of not always doing the right thing.

“Here she flashes her wide grin at someone off-camera in an instantaneously friendly and unfiltered response.

“Eugenie’s pose with her hand on her waist and her elbow pushed out suggests calm confidence and a desire to protect.

“Her features are more closed and she has placed one finger over her lips to suggest caution and reflection.”

Wedding day – 2018

On October 12, 2018, Sarah Ferguson played a key role at Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

One picture from Eugenie’s big day sees her looking across the aisle to check in on her parents.

Judi said: “This was such an emotional day for Sarah.

“Not only was her daughter getting married but she had to cope with the line-up of top-tier royals sitting right behind her in the pews, with arch-critic Prince Philip’s gimlet eye, in particular, boring into her back.

“It was Beatrice who acted as wing-man, keeping her very nervous-looking mother chatting through the most difficult moments but then we saw Sarah and Eugenie exchange this glance that illustrated both the love from a mother to the bride and the bride’s desire to check on her mother and offer reassurance.”
