Now that Christmas is over we can look forward to the next festivity – Valentine’s Day.
And Poundland is already preparing for the most romantic day of the year.
The budget store has re-launched its £1 engagement rings in time for February 14.
The Bling Ring range offers various sizes and colours – from a cheap ruby lookalikes to faux diamonds.
Each item is marketed as placeholder jewellery that allows loved-up Brits to pop the question before purchasing their “forever” engagement sparklers.
Some people opt to get placeholders if their partner wants to pick out their own band.
The “stand by engagement rings” sparked debate when a picture of them was posted on the Money Saver Online Facebook group.
Dozens of commenters said they wouldn’t mind if their partner proposed with a Poundland sparkler.
One responder said: “Seriously… if I loved him and he loved me..then I'd wear it with pride. True love isn't defined by how much a ring is worth.”
Another wrote: “Personally I wouldn't care, it's the thought that counts! Yes it may turn your finger green but love doesn't come in material things!”
And a third added: “I wanted some cheap rings to wear as I'm losing weight and an investment would be bad. This is a great idea!”
Others were less positive about the affordable placeholder rings.
A Facebook user argued: “I’m pretty sure any woman would be happier with a beef Hula Hoop.”
Another said: “This was my ex’s idea of an engagement ring. Got rid straight away.”
And a third added: “Sat here talking to my husband and thinking back to when he proposed. It was a surprise, it was magical and he chose the ring.
“Nowadays men will buy this just because they know their Mrs wont be happy unless they’ve got their super expensive ring that they picked out.
“One day proposals will be planned, the woman will tell him when where and what ring *face palm*.”
