Mom who dressed daughter in blackface tells critics to ‘get a grip’

A mom who dressed her 3-year-old daughter in blackface to make her look like a sunglass seller for Halloween has told people who were offended to “get a grip.”

Claire Flynn, 26, posted a picture of her daughter Sienna’s costume on Facebook yesterday and wrote: “Happy Halloween from Benidorms finest… lookie lookie.”

Her daughter was covered in black face paint and was holding a selection of glasses which were “for sale” for 20 euros ($22).

The costume was intended to impersonate one of the beach traders who work on popular holiday resorts like Benidorm beach in Spain and Flynn said she won’t apologize.

Claire told the Daily Record: “I’m not going to apologize for this or delete my post.”

“If people want to be all PC about it they need to take a look at themselves. It’s really not an issue.”

Flynn, a nurse from Motherwell in Scotland, said she got the “creative” idea when Sienna got a toy monkey from one of the traders and she “loved” them.

She added: “I’m just a creative person and that’s what Halloween is all about. It’s a kid in a costume wearing facepaint. People need to get a grip.”

“I’m not going to bow down to anyone that has an issue with this. I’m not a racist and I’ve not seen anyone calling me a racist and I’m definitely not one.”

She added that people who dress up as Jimmy Savile and Adolf Hitler don’t get called pedophiles or Nazi supporters.

Claire also said friends and family thought the costume was “brilliant” and added no one took offense when she was trick-or-treating Wednesday night.
