If you enjoy tucking into a bag of Marks and Spencer's iconic sweets Percy Pigs, then you're going to love the latest food invention from the luxury supermarket.

The team have been working hard since the start of 2020, and testing multiple recipes (where can we apply to do this?) to create a Christmasey Percy Pig treat for us. They have unveiled that their hours behind the scenes have led to the Percymas pie, an alternative to the traditional mince pie.

If you fancy trying them for yourself then head to your local store or go to their website, where you'll find four of them for £2.

The Percy pie is described as a "buttery shortcrust pastry filled with sweet Percy flavoured jam topped with light and fluffy Percy Pig flavoured sponge, mouth-watering Percy Pig icing and finished off with a classic Percy sweet." Count us in!

The Product Development Director at M&S Food April Preston really sells the product, which is suitable for vegetarians. She explained: “We wanted to create the ultimate mince pie alternative this Christmas to give customers choice. And what could be more delicious than taking the much loved, iconic flavours of our Percy Pig sweets and making them into a pie… a Percymas Pie! If you like the iconic flavour of Percy and the style of a Bakewell tart then this is a must-try – instead of, or as well as, a traditional mince pie!”

The new pig on the shelf caused plenty of intrigue on Twitter with even Olly Murs reacting with a "Holy s**t". There was a mixed reaction with one follower writing: "M&S really are the gift that keeps on giving aren’t they", while another remarked: "Far be it from me to judge marks & spencer’s decisions, but this feels like three steps too far."

It is a no-brainer for M&S to expand their Percy range, as they sell 16 million bags of the sweets every year. That works out at 10 sweets every second!

They haven't stopped at just mince pies they have also added a Merry Percymas Tin (£5) filled with biscuits, The Percy Sweet Jar (£15) which contains 1kg of the sweets, as well as plenty of soft toys (£10-£25).
