Last year we saw the emergence of lockdown-related skin concerns such as “maskne” and “Zoom face”. Now, with salons now closed once more, we’re yet again having to take skincare matters into our own hands.

Fortunately we’ve now had time to perfect our lockdown skincare essentials. Here’s how to keep your skin happy and healthy for the next few months – and how to get your hands on the products for a great price…

A good moisturiser

A good moisturiser is a daily essential, and we’re currently obsessed with Harley Street Skin Care Restorative Hydro Moisturiser, which contains smart stem cell technology to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.

A full-size bottle normally costs £65, but you can try it out for less than £11 in this month’s OK! Beauty Edit box, which has been created by glamorous Mummy Diaries star Billie Shepherd. Containing four other brilliant beauty products handpicked by Billie, the box has a total value of over £60.

Speaking about why she loves this particular moisturiser, Billie says, “It’s a really premium brand and it feels amazing on your skin, especially for moisturising and anti-ageing. It just makes skin firmer and smoother.”

  • Celebrate 2021 with 21% off The OK! Beauty Edit and get Billie Shepherd’s favourite products from under £11

  • Best sheet masks to solve everything from festive flare-ups to ‘wine face’

Normally available from £13 a month, the OK! Beauty Edit is currently on sale for just £10.27* – that’s a saving of nearly £50!

A hydrating face mask

A real treat for the skin, sales of face masks skyrocketed in 2020, and this shows no sign of slowing down this year. You’ll find an excellent one in the OK! Beauty Edit box – Simple Kind To Skin Rich Moisture Face Mask.

This sheet mask drenches the skin in intense hydration in just 15 minutes, and is the perfect pampering treat for when regular facials aren’t possible.

“One of my favourite things to do at home is to use a face mask,” Billie reveals. “This one is so nice, it’s really moisturising but also gentle on your skin.”

Salicylic acid

If you find that regularly wearing a face mask is causing your skin to break out – a term now commonly referred to as “maskne” – you’re definitely not alone. To combat it, look for a product that contains salicylic acid, a gently exfoliating ingredient that helps to clear blocked pores. Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% Liquid Exfoliant, from £10 here, is a long-time favourite with beauty editors.

A simple cleanser

Just because you might not be wearing as much make-up at the moment doesn’t mean your cleansing routine needs to slip. Pick a simple, effective cleanser – we love CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, £7.10 here – and use it morning and night (double cleanse in the evening if you have worn make-up).

And if you STILL can’t break the habit of using face wipes (tut tut), this video from a top cosmetic doctor may just change your mind…

An LED mask

LED light therapy is regularly used in salon treatments to stimulate skin rejuvenation, but since salons have been closed, we’ve seen celebrities such as Chrissy Teigen, Lily Allen and Ashley Roberts donning at-home devices.

Chrissy’s LED mask of choice will set you back a cool £350, but Aldi was selling one for just £49.99 at the end of last year.
