I'm single but desperate to be a dad and I feel I’m running out of time

DEAR DEIDRE: I’M a single guy desperate to be a dad.

I feel the ticking of my biological clock and despite trying hard to find a girlfriend, I haven’t had much luck.

I’m a nice guy. I always treat women well, buying them flowers, telling them how much I love them and how beautiful they are. Sadly, this doesn’t seem to be enough any more.

Women want the perfect Instagram boyfriend and I’m not the most photogenic person. If you don’t have plastic surgery to make your face look picture-perfect, you don’t stand a chance.

I even looked into surrogacy but it is way too expensive. I’ve wanted to hold a child of my own since my niece was born ten years ago.

My life will be empty without being a parent. I’m 37 and feel I’m running out of time and options. It’s soul-destroying.

DEIDRE SAYS: Stop comparing yourself to men on Instagram – they mostly Photoshop those images before posting them.

A change of focus will help. Try to build up genuine friendships first, then romance will follow.

Being overly focused on having a baby quickly can come across as desperate and a turn-off. My support pack Finding The Love Of Your Life will help.
