When Meghan, Duchess of Sussex went public with her relationship with Prince Harry, she had to analyze her personal life meticulously. Though the duchess was fairly well-known from her starring role on Suits, her romance with the prince put her onto the global stage, and soon, the media was digging into all aspects of her personal life.
Meghan had to be certain that the people closest to her were looking out for her best interest so that the intimate details of her private life did not leak to the press. She had to make sure her circle of close girlfriend, in particular, was rock solid. This was especially important when her father, Thomas Markle, and half-siblings proved that they would do and say anything for a check.
Luckily, Meghan built a strong foundation because her time in the British royal family was extremely challenging, she had to deal with a ton of negativity and false rumors about her character thrown her way. With so many rumors about the duchess swirling around her, the people closest to her have their own opinions.

Spotlight on: The Hubb Community Kitchen It was just one year ago that The Duchess of Sussex made a special visit to the women of The Hubb Community Kitchen to help prepare meals for those in need. The connection between The Duchess and these women began a year prior, as she supported them in the creation of “Together”, a charity cookbook which celebrates the power of cooking to bring communities together. The cookbook showcases recipes from women whose community was affected by the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire in London. Their incredible stories and personal recipes placed “Together” on The New York Times Bestseller List and The Sunday Times Booklist. Today, the women at the Hubb Community Kitchen continue to have a positive impact in their community, across the UK, and around the world. Whether it’s providing a safe space for women and children to come for a hot meal, supporting local schools, serving free lunches to senior citizens, partnering with the Red Cross to provide lunches for refugees, or feeding the homeless – the Hubb helps and heals through their support and sustenance. Thank you, ladies, for the leadership and inspiration that your cooking and love of community brings to all those around you. We remain so very proud of the good work that you continue to do, and cannot wait to see what 2020 brings! Photo © PA / Hubb Kitchen / Jenny Zarin
Meghan Markle lost a lot of friends when she married Prince Harry
Like many of us have experience across various phases in our lives, friendships are sometimes best left in the past. Though Meghan remains very close to some of her best friends like Serena Wiliams, she also had to cut off some friends who weren’t looking out for her best interest.
In fact, it looks like things with Meghan’s former BFF Jessica Mulroney have also cooled. Recently, amid the Black Lives Matter movement, Mulroney was threatening the livelihood of Sasha Exeter, a Black entrepreneur, blogger, and brand marketer who called out her white peers for their silence. Obviously this was horrifying for Meghan who had allegedly been distancing herself from Mulroney for some time. A source told Page Six,
Their friendship is definitely not what it was. And really, how can you have such a close friendship when one person is basically making a career out of the friendship? The row has really given Meghan the excuse she was waiting for to cut Jess off for good.

Meghan Markle is very protective of her friends
Though she has lost some friends due to her royal status, the duchess is extremely protective of the friendships that she does have. In fact, she has worked tirelessly to protect the identities of five of her friends who came to her defense amid her privacy lawsuit against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), publishers of The Mail On Sunday.
The friends spoke out for Meghan in 2019 when The Mail On Sunday published a private letter the duchess had written to her father. The newspaper wanted to publish the names of the friends who had spoken with People Magazine anonymously. However, the duchess wanted to protect her friends from the media. The judge has agreed for now.
“The duchess felt it was necessary to take this step to try and protect her friends – as any of us would – and we’re glad this was clear,” an insider told Daily Mail. “We are happy that the judge has agreed to protect these five individuals.
This is what Meghan Markle’s friends really think about her
With so much negativity about the duchess swirling around, her friends have ways been there to push back against that noise. Oprah Winfrey who has grown very close to Meghan through Prince Harry has expressed her admiration for the duchess. “To stand up and say this is what I want for my baby and my family, and now I’m going to do it a different way to what it’s been done for a thousand years,” the media legend said. “I’m just so proud of her…I think it’s a great thing.”
Serena Williams has also gushed about Meghan. “Just having her in general as a friend is great,” she told Vanity Fair. “She’s always positive no matter what, that’s just the kind of person she is. Her personality just shines.”
Actress Priyanka Chopra-Jonas revealed that the duchess was “always meant for big things.”
