Eagle-eyed royal fans think the Duchess of Cambridge wore a custom-made version of a stunning dress by Harvey Weinstein’s ex-wife at Prince Charles’ 70th birthday bash.

Kate, 36, wowed in a one-shouldered gown featuring floral detailing on the shoulder, which she paired with dazzling diamond earrings.

No photographs of the Duchess inside the party have been released, but the arrival pictures have led to speculation her dress may have been by US brand Marchesa, the company headed by Georgia Chapman, the ex-wife of movie mogul Weinstein.

While Kate has worn the brand before, she has not previously been seen in the label since July 2017, before the Hollywood sex scandal broke.

Royal fans believe the Duchess of Cambridge wore a custom-made version of a stunning dress by US brand Marchesa, co-founded by Harvey Weinstein’s ex-wife, at Prince Charles’ 70th birthday bash on Wednesday night

Fans were quick to point out that the floral detailing was similar to that on a strapless creation from Marchesa’s Resort 2018 collection (above)

The Duchess was photographed being driven to Buckingham Palace by Prince William last night, wearing a pair of dazzling earrings which she previously wore at the BAFTAs in 2017.

The earrings have never been identified as belonging to a particular brand, but they’re thought to be part of the Duchess’ own collection, rather than a loan from the Queen.

The What Kate Wore Twitter account added: ‘I hadn’t thought about Marchesa for tonight. It would be a fascinating choice!’

The Duchess previously wore a £1,105 Marchesa Notte tulle gown, when she attended the opening of 42nd Street in the West End in April 2017.

She also wore a daring pale pink lace gown by the brand in July last year, when she attended a Buckingham state banquet held in honour of King Felipe of Spain and his wife Queen Letizia in July last year.

Kate fans quickly took to Twitter to suggest that the Duchess’s pink dress at Charles’ birthday dinner was by the American brand Marchesa

Once a red-carpet favourite, Marchesa has become a controversial choice of designer since the Weinstein scandal broke in September last year.

Actresses Scarlett Johansson was forced to defend her decision to wear the brand at the Met Gala earlier this year, as she became the first celebrity to wear the brand since the allegations against the media mogul were made.

Explaining her choice, she said: ‘I wore Marchesa because their clothes make women feel confident and beautiful and it is my pleasure to support a brand created by two incredibly talented and important female designers.’

Priyanka Chopra also defended her choice to wear a strapless white gown by the American label at her bridal shower last month.

Kensington Palace declined to comment.
