WHAT’S NOW & HOW TO DO IT: NAVY MASCARA
Thanks to face masks, it’s all about eye make-up these days and Elsa McAlonan has shared her top products for wearing navy mascara (stock image)
Thanks to face masks, it’s all about eye make-up these days. Now there’s a trend for subtle coloured mascara and navy is leading the way — it’s elegant at any age.
Sisley So Stretch Mascara in Deep Blue (£48, sisley-paris.co.uk) uses a blend of waxes to separate and curls lashes
While Kiko Milano Smart Colour Mascara in Navy Blue (£5.99, kikocosmetics.com, below left) has a brush that catches even the shortest lashes.
For a lighter shade, try Mavala Treatment Mascara in Blue Glacier (£11.45, amazon.co.uk, middle), which can be made more intense by layering it on top of black.
If you’re feeling brave, Collection’s bold Extreme Colour Lengthening Mascara in Blue (£2.99, super drug.com, left) can make any eye colour pop when applied to the lash tips.
RACE YOU THERE
If you’re looking for a bright new nail polish, the Make Up Gallery X Mattenificent ones (£1 each, Poundland) are bound to spark joy, thanks not only to the vibrant colours, but also the purse-friendly price.
Poundland’s own make-up brand has released three shades to choose from: Velvet (vivid violet), Miami (shocking pink) and Hazard (bright orange) — or make a statement and try all three. At that cost, you can afford to.
DREW’S CLEVER CLEANSER
Drew Barrymore revealed that her go-to make-up remover is the Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution, calling it ‘by far the best she’s ever used’
Drew Barrymore has revealed that her go-to make-up remover is the Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution (£5.30 for 100ml, escentual.com).
Praising the micellar water on Instagram, the actress (pictured) called it ‘by far the best she’s ever used’. The alcohol-free formula is gentle enough for sensitive skin, using decongesting ingredients to prevent irritation, but still cuts through even waterproof mascara.
Bliss, the iconic spa-based line, returns to UK shelves today after a three-year absence, with a brand new look. One product that’s caught my eye is the Eye Do All Things gel (£19.99, boots.com), which helps reduce the look of dark circles. It hydrates and tightens the eye area with caffeine and cucumber extract.
SHOULD I USE SPF ON MY BROWS?
You might think you can get away without applying SPF to your brows, but aesthetic doctor Preema Vig (drpreema.com) says it’s an area you can’t afford to miss.
‘The hair doesn’t give enough coverage to fully protect your skin, so you can get sunburn under your eyebrows,’ she says. ‘You should especially apply SPF over your brows if they are microbladed [where pigment is tattooed on to create a fuller brow] as this will protect them from fading prematurely.’
The new Shiseido Clear Suncare Stick SPF50+ (£28, shiseido.co.uk, left) can be applied under or over make-up
Or try Hawaiian Tropic Mineral Facial Milk SPF30 (£8, boots.com), which absorbs quickly.
3 OF THE BEST: SOOTHING BODY SCRUBS
The Body Shop Olive Exfoliating Cream Body Scrub (£16, thebodyshop.com) has a creamy texture which benefits dull, dry skin. It contains hydrating Italian organic olive oil, leaving skin smoother and brighter.
Rituals The Ritual Of Ayurveda Body Scrub (£14.90, lookfantastic.com) is formulated with purifying pink Himalayan salt and moisturising sweet almond oil. Its calming rose scent will soothe the mind, too.
RHUG Estate Exfoliating Body Scrub (£35, rhug wildbeauty.com) contains nourishing rosemary and safflower oil, as well as honey from Wales’s Rhug Estate, known to promote collagen production and reduce signs of ageing.
Get the perfect natural-looking summer glow with the new Victoria Beckham Beauty Matte Bronzing Brick (£52, from May 4 at victoriabeckhambeauty.com).
Thanks to its moisturising formula infused with moringa oil and cocoa butter, it won’t dry out your skin like some powder bronzers and there’s no chance of patchy coverage, either. With a choice of five colourways to suit all skin tones, each palette has two shades — a lighter one to add warmth and even out skin tone and a deeper one for contouring.
Refills cost £37 each but, since a little goes a very long way, you won’t need to replace it for a while.
