Demi Moore recalls ‘self-destructive’ past: ‘I was spiraling’ and ‘never felt good enough’

Even the woman who embodied the inspiration for a very “Indecent Proposal,” admittedly had trouble seeing her worth.

While accepting her Woman of the Year Award at Friendly House’s Annual Awards Luncheon Saturday, Demi Moore opened up about a time in her life when a Hollywood happy ending eluded her.

“Early in my career, I was spiraling down a path of real self-destruction, and no matter what successes I had, I just never felt good enough,” the 55-year-old said, in footage shared to Twitter by Variety’s Marc Malkin. “I had absolutely no value for myself.

“And this self-destructive path, it very quickly brought me to a real crisis point,” Moore continued. “But it wasn’t clear at the time the reason – maybe it was divine intervention – two people, who I barely knew, stepped up and took a stand for me and they presented me with an opportunity – that was more like an ultimatum – unless I was dead, that I better show up.
