Slap bang in the centre of the Devon city it looks like a bog-standard city hotel but once you step inside it has a high-end feel with a luxurious but quirky look.
Rooms any good?
We had a family room with a sofa bed and an additional roll-out for child number two. It was cosy but never cramped.
The furniture is of a high standard and the bathrooms are super swish.
Eat here or grab a pizza?
You are a short walk from all of Exeter's shops and restaurants so you should probably make the most of them.
But there are decent food options at the hotel if you're feeling lazy.
We only had the breakfast which was excellent.
The parking is fantastic given the hotel's city centre location.
Huge car park right outside, although not massively secure. There is also a good size swimming pool and gym.
So you'd go back?
Yes. We stopped over for one night on the long drive to Cornwall thinking it would be a no-frills stopover hotel.
But it felt quite luxurious and being so close to town allowed us to stretch our legs in the morning with a quick walk around the city without eating into the day.
What's the damage?
Rooms are from £82 a night. See mercure.com.
