Gardening expert and TV presenter Alan Titchmarsh has taken to Instagram once again to share some insight into his own garden. The 72-year-old often shares snapshots of his favourite seasonal plants on the platform and sometimes shares videos, giving his fans an insight into his life. This week, the garden expert shared one of his “favourite things to do” in his garden shed while showing fans a quick peek inside the wooden structure.
The activity involved laying out potatoes to sprout ready for spring.
He captioned the post: “Looking ahead to scrummy spuds…”
In the video, Alan said “everybody should have a shed” to escape everyday life.
He said: “Everybody should have a shed, a little escape, particularly in the middle of winter.
“Also somewhere to do useful things.
“One of my favourite things I’ve just done in my shed.”
The gardening expert described the shed as his “sweet little sanctuary” where he keeps “all his bits”.
Alan described what he keeps in his garden shed, including a blue cuckoo clock, before sharing how he “laid out” the seed potatoes.
He said: “I’ve got my string and my seed heads and my cuckoo clock – which doesn’t really cuckoo – and a few trowels and where I keep my seeds and my onion sets.

“I’ve just laid out my seed potatoes. Eyes are uppermost, these tiny buds here will sprout.
“Seed potatoes are best planted in March and April when these have sprouted by about an inch or half an inch.
“Those are ‘Home Guard’ and these are my favourite potatoes – ‘Charlotte’.”
Alan split up the two varieties of potato and labelled them.
The shed appears to be in the middle of his vegetable house at the back of his property.
The gardening pro said the shed is his “favourite place” to sit in the winter.
He continued: “This is my favourite place to sit in winter because I can just look out across the vegetable patch at the bare earth and think that one day soon spring will come again.
“It’s a lovely thing about winter, just thinking about what’s to come.
“Looking forward to all those potatoes.”
Alan’s post received over 56,000 views from his fans and lots of comments.
Instagram user Julia Gleed commented on the post: “Love Charlotte potatoes too Alan, merry Christmas.”
Paul Murphy said: “Looking good Alan, a very Merry Christmas to you, every gardeners’ hideaway and reflection spot. Cheers and here’s to a healthy 2022.”
