How to make iced tea

Iced tea is usually served in a glass with ice and is the perfect drink for a hot summer day. Iced tea comes with a flurry of flavour’s, including lemon, raspberry, lime, passion fruit, peach, orange, strawberry, and cherry. Iced tea became a popular drinks in the UK in the 2000s following Lipton’s sale of a carbonated iced tea. But how do you make your own iced tea? How to make iced tea

Ingredients:

  • 6 tea bags
  • 2 tbsp caster sugar
  • 1 tbsp runny honey
  • 3 small lemons, 2 juiced and 1 sliced
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • small bunch mint
  • ice, to serve

Method

Step one: Pour 1.5 litres boiling water over the tea bags, then stir in the sugar and honey. Leave to infuse for 10 mins, then strain and transfer to the fridge to chill.

Step two: Pour the chilled tea into a large jug, then stir in the lemon juice, lemon slices, mint and orange slices. Fill the rest of the jug with ice and stir well.

Step three: Serve with ice.

How to flavour iced tea

Iced tea is often sweetened simply with sugar or runny honey, however, there are plenty of ways to spice it up.

How long is iced tea good for?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), iced tea should only be stored in the fridge for eight hours, max.

However, although the tea is usually best the same day you make it, but good for three or even four days.

After four days the flavour can get weird and, if you’ve added sugar or fruit to the tea, it can even start to ferment.
