Sneaky hack reveals how to make Play-Doh at home – and it only costs 2p | The Sun

A SAVVY mum has shared how she makers her own Play-Doh for her kids at home using kitchen cupboard staples.

Katie Carlson explained how she does it on Instagram and it's the perfect thing to keep little ones busy during the summer holidays.

"I’ve been wanting to try making the kids Play-Doh & found the perfect recipe!

"I will warn you, this was way too much fun to make & I ended up playing with it myself too," she captioned the video she posted on social media.

To make your own you'll need:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tbsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Food colouring

Start by baking the flour at 180C for five minutes, you'll want to make sure you have an exact measurement too or the Play-Doh could end up being too sticky, Katie explained.

Then you can mix together the flour, salt and cream of tartar until it's completely combined.

Add in the vegetable oil next, followed by a food colouring of your choice.

This is where you can get creative and make as many different colours as you want.

A lot of food colouring will make more vivid Play-Doh, but you could also create pastel shades by only adding in a small amount.

Simply mix the food colouring into boiling water before adding it to the mix to stop is from looking streaking or clumpy.

Once the colour is mixed in you can take it out of the bowl and "massage it with your hands until it's that nice Play-Doh consistency," Katie said.

The best part is you can keep the DIY Play-Doh for up to six months just by storing it in air tight containers at room temperature.

After sharing the bargain trick on social media other parents couldn't wait to try it out either.

One said: "So excited to try this with my kiddos at work! Thanks for sharing."

And a second raved: "I use this exact recipe for my kids, only variation is, I place all ingredients in a pot altogether and stir the dough on low heat to allow the dough to bind well and cook a little and remove from stove, allow to cool, find this makes the dough last even longer."
