I wished my ex a Merry Christmas with a creepy Gif by accident – she responded years later

MANY PEOPLE say texting your ex is never a good idea, but what if you do it on accident?

One man has recalled the moment he mistakenly wished his ex a Merry Christmas with a creepy Gif – and the internet has completely lost it.

“Today marks the seven-year anniversary of the worst text I’ve ever sent,” the man, named Dillon Michael White, wrote over a video of himself looking sad he shared on TikTok.

“I was trying to text my old college roommate, Devin,” he explained through more text as James Young’s somber ballad, Happiest Year, played in the background.

The TikToker then revealed he mistyped a letter, resulting in an awkward interaction.

“So instead I accidentally texted Devon, an old girlfriend wh broke up with me 10 years ago because my ‘sense of humor’ weirded her out.

“That’s an important fact because this was the text I sent her by mistake,” he said before revealing the cringe-worthy message.

The message innocently read: “Merry Christmas. See you soon,” but was sent with a creepy Gif of an elf with piercing eyes twisting his head all the way around.

Basically, the Gif looked like it was out of a Christmas-themed horror movie.

Fellow TikTokers were in disbelief over the text message blunder and were equally mortified for the sender and his ex.

“Somewhere on the other side of TikTok Devon is commemorating seven years of therapy,” one user wrote, with Michael responding by asking if he should offer to pay for half.

“I was expecting bad but….. the picture really outdid itself,” a second TikToker wrote, adding that the situation is “perfect horror.”

“I can’t decide if it would be worse to receive this from an unsaved number or if I knew it was an ex,” another person pondered.

Others replied with their own text message mishaps, with one user saying: “If it makes you feel some commiseration, once I accidentally sent my ex a screenshot of me getting rejected by someone else.”

And to top it all off, Michael added in the comment section of the video that his ex responded after seeing the viral video.

“This has been a wild three days,” he wrote.

In a follow-up video, he shared that he panicked when his ex messaged him and ended up telling her a knock-knock joke.

She was not amused, but Michael said he doesn’t regret anything.

Of course, Michael isn’t the first – and surely won’t be the last – person to accidentally send the wrong person a text message.

One person revealed she dumped her date after he sent her a message meant for his buddy calling her an awful name.

Another woman shared that her date sent her a message calling her looks “blah” instead of sending it to the intended person.
