Couple plan entire wedding for just £388 after coronavirus cancellations – including the dress and a homemade veil

A COUPLE have thrown a budget wedding for just £388 – after their big day was scuppered by coronavirus.

Posting on TikTok, Kaitlin Howard revealed how they spent thousands on their cancelled wedding – so decided to do a budget do on July 16.

The bride, from Brisbane, Australia, had forked out £11,100 (AUS$20,000) on her reception and a further £2,200 ($4,000) on a custom-made wedding dress – which she was unable to collect for the last-minute do.

But the 23-year-old and now-husband Martin managed to arrange a budget big day for just £388 ($700) – including a new dress and homemade veil.

Social media/marketing assistant Kaitlin told news.com.au: “It was devastating. I think when coronavirus started, we knew deep down it wasn’t going to happen – we were both so upset. I was balling my eyes out.

“We didn’t know how long this was going to last and we really just wanted to get married so we made the last minute decision to elope.

“My sister was cutting the veil 30 minutes before I walked down the aisle – that’s how much of a home job it was, as I didn’t have time to order anything online."

Her white gown was just £127 ($230) in an online sale, while her veil cost £3.89 ($7) for the material.

Posting about the change of plans on TikTok, Kaitlin explained: "My original dress was still being made so I had to buy one online and went for this Shona Joy slip.

"Next we had to find a location, which had to be a park because of Covid, so we went for a park five minutes down the road. Matt was actually going to propose to me here.

"Next on the list was a veil and Spotlight coming through with $7 material.

"This was my hen night, we watched the Lizzie McGuire Movie and just had so much fun.

"So now it's my wedding morning and my sister's making my flowers, look how good they look.

"I did my own make-up the morning of, I used to be a make-up artist so that worked out well.

"We then had a little reception with just direct family.

"We're still throwing a wedding number two later on in the year with all our friends and family, but this was the most special day of my life."

Kaitlin had her two sisters as bridesmaids, while videographer Matthew invited his two best friends – who filmed the ceremony for the happy couple.

She is saving her made-to-order gown for the big celebration, as it's "completely different" from her other wedding dress.

Yesterday, we revealed how you can now rent expensive designer wedding dresses for as little as £15 for your big day.
