The Simpsons set to bring back major character after 33 years
The Simpsons is set to bring back a major character from the show’s first season after 33 years.
In the shortened premiere series, which contains only 13 episodes, Homer (Dan Castellaneta) and Marge’s (Julie Kavner) marriage faces many tests.
In the 10th episode, Homer’s Night Out, Marge kicks Homer out of the house after he is photographed dancing with Princess Kashmir, a belly dancer during a bachelor party.
And a week earlier, in Life On the Fast Lane, Marge finds herself unimpressed with Homer’s idea to buy himself a bowling ball for her 34th birthday.
To spite Homer, Marge takes up bowling herself – at the bowling alley, she meets Jacques, a bowling instructor who attempts to pursue an affair with her.
Marge ultimately turns Jacques down and returns to Homer, visiting him at work during the day in one of the show’s most famous endings.
Now, after 33 years since he last featured prominently in an episode, Jacques is returning to Springfield on Sunday (March 19), with his intentions unclear.
The Simpsons, now in its 34th season, making it the longest-running TV sitcom in US history, will bring Jacques back during Pin Gal, the new season’s 17th episode.
Showrunner Al Jean, who worked on the show during its early days, confirmed Jacques’ return on social media while promoting the episode.
‘Don’t nap on new episode Sunday. Pin Gal with the return of Jacques!’, Jean said, with fans noticing it will air 33 years and one day since his first appearance.
Jacques, voiced by actor Albert Brooks, has been seen on The Simpsons since that episode aired in 1990, but only in very, very brief cameos throughout the show’s run.
In season 7 episode Team Homer, which sees Homer form a bowling team, known as the Pin Pals, Jacques is a member of a rival team named The Homewreckers.
The team features other brief characters from The Simpsons who once threatened Homer and Marge’s marriage, including Princess Kahsmir.
Jacques was also briefly part of the angry mob that descended upon The Simpsons’ house in 2007’s The Simpsons Movie.
Simpsons superfan Lizzo will also be making a surprise appearance later in the new season, in the episode Homer’s Adventure’s Through the Windshield Glass.
The Simpsons is available to stream on Disney Plus.
