Closing out Milan Fashion Week, New Delhi-based designer Dhruv Kapoor took the stage in Italy’s historic Palazzo Clerici, holding his Fall/Winter 2023 showcase in the charming landmark’s 18th-century Tiepolo Room.
The designer continues to reflect the diverse personalities spread across modern-day society and aims to create an interactive community where personal values are constantly upheld. Kapoor’s most recent collection, “Awakening,” explores its definition through an exclusive collaboration with the Godzilla franchise. The partnership acts as a middle-ground between fashion and film, channeling Godzilla’s big-screen identity through a refreshed lens.
An upbeat orchestral soundtrack guided models down the royal runway as the collection came alive via monstrous graphics and oversized silhouettes with soft edges and a balanced outlook. Models first rocked paint-splattered mesh ensembles, seamlessly followed by billowing tracksuits and denim sets frayed to perfection.
Gory graphics were printed on satin shirting, skin-tight dresses, and nylon outerwear, which looked to redefine the monster’s common perception with a protective energy. Godzilla dynamically destroys its local city, while diverse Japanese characters detail its journey through world domination.
Elsewhere, metallic puffer coats are matched with illustrative trousers, moving alongside structured outerwear, hand-painted suiting, and stud-encrusted leather pairings.
