Breitling has worked with adventurous Australian lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina to produce a warm, retro version of the brand’s newly revived Top Time chronograph.
The Breitling Deus Top Time Limited Edition reflects the 1960’s spirit of the original watch with the kind of bright orange highlights that hint at the latter part of the decade.
A creamy dial with two softened square (or squircle) sub-dials – 30-minute chronograph counter at the three o’clock and running seconds at the nine o’clock – is framed by a black chapter ring, which itself is emblazoned a Tachymeter scale and the phrase ‘In Benzin Veritas’ or ‘In Petrol We Trust.’
But the central chronograph seconds hand, formed from a deep orange lightning bolt, tells you everything you need to know about the bold spirit of the new Top Time, a watch only reintroduced to Breitling’s collection last year.
On the reverse of the 41mm stainless steel chronograph is an engraved image of a motorcyclist travelling at speed designed by Deus creative director Carby Tuckwell while inside beats a Breitling Calibre 23 movement, which is based on ETA’s legendary 7750 chronograph platform and offers 48 hours of power reserve.
But the partnership with Deus Ex Machina extends far beyond the watch itself, Breitling will now be the Official Timekeeper of the Deus Swank Rally, a vintage motorbike championship that takes place around the world, and it also sees the formation of a new Squad, Breitling’s concept of specialist brand ambassadors. The Deus Squad includes long-time friends of the brand Californian surf and bike enthusiast Forrest Minchinton, Hawaiian competitive surfer Sierra Lerback and French motorcycle engineer and designer Jeremy Tagand.
Just 1,500 pieces of the $4,990 USD Breitling Deus Top Time Limited Edition are being produced and for the first month it will be an online exclusive. Customers buying via Breitling direct will also get a limited edition Deus coffee table book and unique canvas tote bag.
