X Factor star issues update on ‘worst pain ever’ after gruesome injury

X Factor 2010 contestant Katie Waissel has compared the pain of her gruesome infection to “a thousand needles stabbing”, as she shared the latest on her Instagram Stories.

The 37-year-old singer admitted she’d felt “nauseous” at the agony of having to rip her bandage off to show her injury during a FaceTime call with her nurse.

She originally contracted the infection after her finger slipped on a mandoline slicer, and things have gone from bad to worse since.

In a candid makeup-free video, she revealed the extent of the injury, explaining she’d had to “cut off” the bandage and was left feeling “so sick”.

“The whole thing is so gross,” she exclaimed, issuing a “trigger warning” to followers and adding: “It’s not fresh blood, it’s dry – but I had to take half of [the bandage] off and look at that.”

Katie, who was renowned for her dramatic emotional performances on X Factor, revealed: “It’s the worst pain ever.

“It’s like a thousand needles stabbing and my God, if I lose my finger I will take one off the middle position and put it on the middle position again to give a royal f*** you to this situation,” she continued.

She’d previously taken to social media on Monday to unveil her injury for the first time, declaring: “I swear mandolines, or me using one, should now officially be banned! Worst injury ever sustained.”

Katie added: “Shout out to all nurses and [doctors] that deal with these things and much worse on a daily basis! You really are my [heroes].”

She added the hashtag “#cantlookwontlook” as she visibly winced and clutched her sore finger.

Meanwhile, Katie has made quite a transformation from would-be chart singer to lawyer in training – and recently she made the shock announcement that she’d be suing her former X Factor judge Simon Cowell’s firm Syco Entertainment.

Back in January, it emerged that she’d begun a remote postgraduate law degree, studying while her four-year-old son Hudson was at nursery.

Katie is now at the stage where she can work as a paralegal, and she has the option of further vocational training so she can become a solicitor or barrister.

Unfortunately, Katie’s time on X Factor was a stressful and traumatic experience for her, as she received death threats from members of the public.

She has since told the Times that she felt appearing on the show “ruined her life”, although it also gave her the impetus to start studying law.

“I just wanted to be able to understand [the contracts],” she explained, adding that she thought her experience was shaped by a “huge imbalance of power”.

However, to sue Syco Entertainment, she’d need to successfully get a judge to waive the statute of limitations of personal injury, which currently stands at three years, as she appeared on the show 13 years ago.
