TikTok is not only a video-sharing app to send your friends funny memes and dance challenges, but it’s a great way for artists to gain exposure with their music. Take singer and rapper Rod Wave for example. Thanks to his song “Heart On Ice” going viral on TikTok, Rod Wave earned himself a spot on Billboard’s Hot 100, according to HipHopDX. Now, the rapper is up for the Top New Artist award at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, which airs on NBC on May 23, 2021 (via Billboard).
Rod Wave also just released his new album “SoulFly” back in March, which beat out Justin Bieber’s album “Justice” on the Apple Music Pre-Add Chart the week of March 12, according to Rolling Stone. Recently, the Florida rapper got to perform some of his songs off of “SoulFly” in his NPR “Tiny Desk” concert. While Rod Wave may be a new artist to some, he’s “quite clearly one of the biggest rappers in the country right now,” according to NPR. And there’s no stopping him anytime soon.
Rod Wave's viral music streams have made him a millionaire
As Rolling Stone says, the “Rags2Riches” singer “may not be a household name, but he sure streams like one.” It’s through those streams that Rod Wave has an estimated $1.6 million net worth, according to We Publish News. Now that he has a No. 1 album with “SoulFly,” that net worth can only go up from here (via Billboard). In fact, “SoulFly” had “the biggest week for an R&B/hip-hop album in 2021” with 130,000 units earned in its first week. While “SoulFly” did well, the rapper also had his songs “Tombstone,” “Street Runner,” and “Richer” reach top spots on the charts as well (via Variety).
So, it’s just the beginning for Rod Wave as his success continues to grow. And pretty soon, he will be a household name just like fellow Billboard Music Award nominees The Weeknd, Post Malone, and Drake.
