Rachel McAdams has been applauded by fellow mums for her latest photoshoot.
The Mean Girls actress, 40, posed up for Girls Girls Girls magazine as she expressed milk from her breasts.
Dripping in Bvlgari diamonds and wearing a black bra and Versace jacket draped over her shoulders, Rachel gave a fierce glare to the camera in the powerful image – that was originally supposed to be an outtake.
It came as a shock to some fans as Rachel has been so fiercely private about motherhood in the past she refused to say she was pregnant or disclose the name of her now seventh month old son.
After the picture caused a storm on social media, magazine founder Claire Rothstein took to Instagram to reveal what happened behind the scenes on the divisive shoot.
Describing Rachel as a dream to work with, Claire said: "Between shots she was expressing/pumping as still breastfeeding. We had a mutual appreciation disagreement about who’s idea it was to take this picture but I’m still sure it was hers which makes me love her even more.
"Breastfeeding is the most normal thing in the world, like breathing and I can’t for the life of me imagine why or how it is ever frowned upon or scared of," she said.
"I don’t even think it needs explaining but just wanted to put this out there, as if it even changes one person’s perception of something so natural, so normal, so amazing then that’s great.
Rothstein then signed off with : "Big shout out to all the girls."
Her impassioned post sparked a huge response from mums on Instagram.
"Honestly it’s astounding to think I’ve never seen anything even close to this type of image before – breastfeeding is life!" praised one.
"I can’t love this enough," added another.
"On Wednesdays we wear breast pumps," joked another, in a nod to Rachel’s Regina George character in Mean Girls.
Rachel gave birth to her first child in April this year with boyfriend Jamie Linden.
