The producers of Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, announced on Wednesday that the show will close this December.
The Des McAnuff-directed musical, which opened with a preview on March 28, will have played a total of 289 regular performances and 27 previews when curtains come down on December 30 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
The production received two Tony nominations for actresses La Chanze and Ariana DeBose, who played as Diva Donna and Disco Donna, respectively.
According to Playbill, the show played at 43 percent of capacity in the week ending November 25. That was the lowest attendance rate among existing Broadway productions. During the Thanksgiving week, the musical grossed $462,727, about 32% of its potential.
Head Over Heels, one of the other two Broadway productions to post closing notices last week, logged a 46 percent attendance.
The producers of Summer also announced that it will begin a national tour on September 30, 2019, with likely stops in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Nashville, West Palm Beach and Rochester.
