Colson Smith has announced he's taking a short break from the popular ITV soap opera Coronation Street.

The 22 year old, who shared his exercise regime during the lockdown period after dropping two stone, spoke out on his decision to step away from the limelight on Sofa Cinema Club podcast.

The star explained that he'll be spending four weeks on a farm to help his sister Hannah, who is a veterinarian, during lambing season, which is the time of the year that sheep give births to lambs.

"April is lambing season and I've got the call up – I'm in for lambing season,” he said. "I'm off work for the whole of April, so I'm going to be there lambing. It's going to be great."

Colson confessed he's been enjoying his time on the farm more than he thought he would and that it has been a nice change from his life on the set of the soap opera playing the role of Craig Tinker.

He continued: "It's been full on. I finished work and I got a call saying, 'You need to come and help out, we need some help on the farm.'

"I'm a top farmer. I can drive the tractor, I'm good at that kind of stuff.”

Colson, who was recently left "scared" to leave his house after a row with his neighbours over recycling, then revealed that he took a different path to his family members as they all prefer the peace and quiet of the countryside, while he's considered a "townie".

“My family has all been brought up in the countryside. They are all very outdoors-y, academic, smart people," he explained.

"And then there's me. I'm a bit of a townie, because I wanted to be an actor when everybody else wanted to live by the fat of the land sort of thing.”

It comes after the star revealed he had a secret argument with 33 year old Jack P Shepherd, who portrays the character David Platt, away from the Corrie cobbles.

Speaking on the same podcast alongside their co-star Ben Price, who plays Nick Tilsey, Colson said the foot injury he suffered at the end of last year left him crying with pain after going for a run on Christmas Day.

Frustrated and in pain, Colson admitted he took it out on Jack as he said: “I took it out on Jack actually with the mugs.

Actor Colson then sent Jack some designed to “prove he’d done the job” but he wasn’t satisfied with Jack’s response. He explained: “After, Jack said, ‘It looks a bit s**t’.

“I was like, ‘It's not going to f***ing look like that is it? That's why I've done that’.”
