Much has been made of the body language of President Trump, his predecessors and their wives at Wednesday’s state funeral for George H.W. Bush at Washington’s National Cathedral.
“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert also had an observation or two about the latest meeting of the ex-presidents’ club, which last convened at the September funeral of Sen. John McCain. At that service, George W. Bush made headlines for passing a cough drop to his “partner-in-crime,” Michelle Obama. (Trump had been asked to stay away on that occasion, though his daughter and son-in-law attended.)
“It was quite a moving sight to see the presidents and first ladies in the front row waiting to honor President Bush, chatting comfortably with one another – until Trump showed up and then it became silent staring time,” he cracked. “Donald Trump is the only person in the world who can bring down a funeral.”
