Lupita Nyong’o is seeing red.
The actress, 36, attended the premiere of her new film “Us” on Thursday night wearing a red sequin dress from Attico ($4,925) and dramatic, vampire-inspired hair and makeup to match.
Not only did Nyong’o sport blood-red contact lenses, but she also accented the look with black eyeshadow and lipstick as well as bold red blush.
Makeup artist Nick Barose created the look using all Lancôme products, including Ombré Hypnôse Stylo Eyeshadow in Onyx ($25), the Color Design five shadow and liner palette in Gris Fumme ($30) and Drama Liqui-Pencil Longwear eyeliner in Noir ($23) on the Oscar winner’s eyes.
Instead of highlighter, Barose used bright red blush ($25) high on her cheekbones. For the lips, the artist actually used a black eye crayon as a base, then layered on matching dark L’Absolu Lacquer Gloss in the very appropriately-named shade Not Afraid ($26).
Fans loved the star’s dark yet sexy look. “I thought this was Grace Jones for a quick sec,” one commented on Instagram. “Almost fall of [sic] the chair when I saw this post,” another said.
The actress is clearly not afraid of a daring red carpet moment. She recently attended SXSW wearing a swatch of red eyeshadow like a mask and a dozen hair clips in an homage to Snoop Dogg. She also regularly wears traditional African hairstyles to honor her Kenyan heritage and her role in “Black Panther.”
The Jordan Peele-directed movie stars Nyong’o opposite Winston Duke as a couple who are confronted — and hunted — by creatures who look exactly like them. In the role, the actress plays both Adelaide and her doppelgänger, Red. “Us” hits theaters on March 22.
