Speaking at the Teen Choice Awards, Fifth Harmony star Normani Kordei and actress Sabrina Carpenter praise Demi Lovato for being honest about her struggles with addiction. (Aug. 13)
Demi Lovato is looking just fine, thank you.
But social media trolls are all but unavoidable, and they came for the 26-year-old singer in the comments of a recent Instagram photo from Nov. 7, which the gossip site JustJared reported was taken when Lovato, 26, stepped out to “(make) a coffee run after a workout.”
While several commenters were hung up on her supposed weight gain following her hospitalization this summer for a reported overdose and subsequent stint in rehab, calling her a “fatty” and surmising that “she gained some weight back,” the majority of the comments came from fans defending Lovato from hate.
“For all of you who are fat shaming her, first look at yourself and than judge,” one comment read. “You’re for equality, but all you can do is bring others down with your mean comments. She gained weight, and? You’re saying ‘don’t make fun of an overweight person’ but you’re doing the same thing. You’re a bully.”
Another commenter wrote, “Some serious bullies on here! Who the (expletive) cares about her weight! She’s beautiful now and she was before…Only now she’s healthy!! You people are the problem!”

“Being alive looks good on her,” read another comment, referring to her recent health scare. “Happy to see she’s fighting and pushing through. You got this Demi!”
Lovato’s mother Dianna De La Garza recently revealed on Maria Menounos‘ Sirius XM podcast last month that the singer is now 90 days sober.
“Yes, she has 90 days and I couldn’t be more thankful or more proud of her because addiction being a disease, it’s work,” De La Garza said.
