Vogue editor Anna Wintour reveals Meghan Markle is her unlikely fashion icon

IT SEEMS Meghan Markle is a fashion inspiration to just about everyone.

And one person who is obsessed with the Duchess of Sussex's style just as much as the rest of us is queen of fashion, Anna Wintour.

The editor-in-chief of US Vogue gave her fashion stamp of approval during an interview last week, with the 69-year-old even calling Meghan an "inspiration".

Speaking to journalist Tina Brown at the 2019 Women in the World summit, the fashion guru was asked for her thoughts on Meghan.

"She’s really bringing modernity to the royal family in a way that is inspiring," Wintour explained.

"I think the image that I have in my mind… the Duchess of Sussex walking down the aisle by herself, that to me was representative of a modern woman."

And it seems the royal has even been inspiring some of Wintour's own wardrobe after she revealed she's been considering incorporating a few power suits into her day-to-day look.

When asked how someone finds their signature style, she explained: “I think that’s an entirely personal decision…It’s probably an easier decision to wear the same thing every day and not have to be concerned.

“Maybe it’s a little bit boring and time to change.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about suits recently so… thank you to the Duchess of Sussex!”

And Meghan wasn't the only royal Wintour was speaking fondly of.

She also recalled a lunch she shared with Prince Harry's late mother, Princess Diana, six weeks before her death in 1997.

According to Wintour, Diana wore a mint green Chanel suit for the lunch at the Four Seasons hotel in New York.

"She looked incredible first of all," said Wintour.

"That was the most important thing and she looked fantastic.

"I heard that she spent a lot of time deciding what to wear to that particular lunch.

"I think that the part of her popularity was that Princess Diana really was so good with the media and was so in tune with them and welcomed them rather than standing back.

"In a way, she was certainly the first person in the royal family to understand the benefits of that."
