Astonishing moment food blogger takes on 50oz burger in epic challenge

When it comes to burgers, they can vary drastically, but it’s fair to say the average beef patty weighs between four and six ounces.

Depending on the size of your appetite, some people will be able to eat a whole burger in one sitting, while others may struggle to finish it.

The latter would probably be amazed to meet 24-year-old social media star Kate Ovens, who just polished off a whopping 50oz burger – and captured the accomplishment on film for all to see.

Kate, a food blogger from Kennington in south London, is well-known for taking on epic food challenges and her latest took place at Libertine Burger in Leamington Spa.

The restaurant created an "absolute monstrosity" of a meal for the petite blogger, made up of nine beef burger patties, cheese, salad and gherkins, all encased in a seeded bun.

This was of course accompanied by a generous side of fries.

Before taking on the challenge, Kate revealed she was feeling a little apprehensive about the food in front of her, but nonetheless was excited to get stuck in.

She said: "I am at Libertine Burger in Leamington Spa and they have created this absolute monstrosity of a thing, which I think is nine patties.

"I found these guys at the National Burger Awards and they make an excellent burger, would definitely recommend you come down."

As the challenge kicked off, the foodie easily smashed her way through the first few patties, saying they were "so tasty".

However after about nine minutes she began to struggle and slow down.

"I can feel all the meat," she explained. "I feel like it’s coming out through my cheeks."

Carrying on, Kate managed to tackle the gigantic feast, clearing the entire tray in a total of 22 minutes.

She now adds this ‘win’ to a selection of others, including finishing a 74oz steak at M restaurant in Bank earlier this year.

"It’s the biggest burger I’ve ever completed," she admitted. "I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I definitely wasn’t as prepared for the challenge as I usually am."

Kate started entering food challenges about three years ago and has now managed to turn her talent for scoffing mammoth meals into a career – with many brands and restaurants vying to collaborate with her.

The challenges mainly involve finishing a meal within a set time limit, or trying to finish a giant portion all by herself.

She regularly shares photos and videos of herself doing this to her Facebook page, Kate Ovens, which has more than 160,000 followers, as well as on YouTube, Instagram and Twitter.

Her top tip for others wanting to take on a challenge is to "go in hungry".

Kate also recommends adding sauce to your food to change up the taste: "During the burger challenge, it helped to have a dollop of ketchup on my plate to change up the flavours every so often."

Speaking about her unconventional job, she added: "I know it’s controversial, but I exercise and try and eat as healthily as I can the rest of the time. It’s all about balance."
